Chanel Fernandez is a Jersey native who has been enjoying the sunshine and opportunities for growth in Florida for nearly 3 years. When asked to tell us a little about herself she said, "I’m extremely close with my family and am so blessed to say that they have supported me through every step of my journey of self-discovery. I now assist my boyfriend of one year in growing his photography business while steadily cultivating my own." She has a passion for photography and is drawn to boudoir.
Studio Adorn: When and how did you discover your passion for photography?
Chanel Fernandez: "While I have always had an interest in photography and began exploring it with my first Nikon about 8 years ago, the interest turned into a passion to grow a career when I made my move to Florida. It began with a love of women’s portraiture, which has grown and evolved into an eye for fine art, conceptual, editorial, and (of course) boudoir styled portraits."
SA: Photography is definitely an art, and much like other artists, photographers seek inspiration from other avenues or artists. Who are some other photographers you seek inspiration from?
CF: "More so than one photographer in particular, I draw inspiration from the images themselves: what mood did the photographer create with the lighting to inspire a feeling? What expression was captured that really told a story? I look for those elements and seek to emulate them in my work."
SA: Where else does your inspiration come from for your style of photography, in addition to other photographers?
CF: "I’m also a writer, so oftentimes I find myself attempting to bring to life visually some of the stories that I’ve been telling with the written word. I’m also inspired by the avant garde elements of the fashion industry, and the unbeatable quality of spaces full of natural light."
SA: How did your time at Studio Adorn benefit your business and repertoire with clients?
CF: "Studio Adorn provided a high quality space that brought invaluable production value to the images I was able to deliver to my clients. The sheer size of the space alone provided to much freedom of movement and allowed for more creativity when designing the sets for each client."
SA: What was your favorite feature about Studio Adorn? If you could add something more “you” what would it be?
CF: "The gorgeous windows flooding us with all the natural light! I’m a less-is-more kind of girl, so there’s nothing more I would add!"
SA: We know you love photography, but what is another talent or area of interest you have?
CF: "I am a jewelry designer, so I hope to be able to incorporate custom jewelry and accessories into my client wardrobe very soon!"
SA: What is your favorite type of photography?
CF: "Boudoir and conceptual work are two of my favorite genres."
